Glossary of Paranormal Terms

Cabinet

A box or curtained enclosure in which a physical medium is secured and from which various phenomena may manifest (e.g., lights, objects moving, instruments played).

Cerebral Anoxia

Refers to a lack of oxygen to the brain, often causing sensory distortions and hallucinations. Sometimes used to explain features of the near-death experience.

Channeler

A person (medium) who allows entities or spirits to temporarily possess their body for communication.

Channeling

Refers to communication by entities through channelers or mediums.

Cipher test

A coded message left by a person when alive with the intention of communicating the cipher by some means after death.

Clairsentient

The psychic ability to feel, percieve and be aware of things nobody else can.

Clairvoyance

The psychic ability to communicate with entities and spirits, foresee events or occurances in the future, or collect and collate information using the mind.

Clairvoyant

A person who possesses the psychic ability of clairvoyance.

Cleansing

The removal of an entity or spirit from a location or situation.

Cold Spot

An area that is colder than its surrounding environment, generally referred to with the view that a spirit or entitty may be present.

Collective Apparition

An apparition that is visible to a group or more than one individual.

Corpse Light

Unknown lights (sometimes referred to as orbs) that are seen when paranormal phenomena is occurring.

Crisis Apparition

Usually a onetime paranormal experience when a ghost is seen at the time of its death by family and friends as a way of saying goodbye or giving information.

Curse

Any expressed wish, desire or invocation that some form of adversity or misfortune will befall or attach to one or more persons, a place, or an object.
